July/August 2008 - Dean is still steaming ahead, and now Barbara is getting a bit busy too! We are both judging separate On My Own time art shows in August. OMOT shows are company employee art shows sponsored by the NTBCA (North Texas for Business and the Arts) to celebrate the artist in everyone. Multiple categories are judged and the winners from each company show go to a group show at North Park Mall in Dallas.
On August 23rd Barbara is again participating in the EASL Art Heist at the Artspace 111 in Fort Worth. Please go to the EASL website for information on how to attend this fun event and find out what you need to do to "steal" a piece of art. EASL is a group providing grants for emergency money to artists who may not have insurance or other safety nets in times of crisis or need.
The ECC art faculty fall show, New Works, runs August 18th through September 13th, 2008, in the H. Paxton Moore Art Gallery at El Centro College. The reception is Tuesday, Sept. 9, 6-8 pm in the gallery. Gallery Talk(s) begin at 6:30 pm. Barbara has 3 new works from the City Reflections series in this show.
In October, Barbara will be a part of the Eastfield College faculty show, "The Art Show That Happens Every Other Year". More to come regarding reception etc.
Dean recently competed in the 24 Hour Video Race here in Dallas. His team, "4 Geeks and a Camera", placed among the 8 finalists in their category. This was a great surprise as they were a newbie team! While they did not end up as one of the places (1st, 2nd, or 3rd), they were very happy to have gotten that far in their first attempt.
Dean's TV Production class, taught through El Centro College at the Dallas iMedia studio is progressing well. The students are crewing a live to TV show during class time and learning how to write and make their own videos.
Shirley is working on her education degree and being the busy mom of Zoe. She still takes terrific pictures. A few new ones have been posted in her gallery.
